Show Notes

Joy Bauer will tell you “Every failure is the beginning of a wonderful success.” It’s a lesson she learned from her father, but it applies whether we’re talking recipes, life goals, or Joy’s own career.  For the past 14 years, Joy has appeared weekly on NBC’s Today Show sharing her tremendous knowledge of nutrition and the science underpinning it, as well as the latest research to help us live our healthiest and best lives. But it’s her tremendous vitality, positive energy, and practical, accessible tips that set her apart. It’s what I absolutely loved about my conversation with her! I think you will too!

Here are a few highlights:

Joy and I talk about what inspired her love of nutrition after heading off to college on a gymnastics scholarship. That first nutrition course in pre-med changed her life and her trajectory forever.

We also talk about how she got her big break in media, and what the impact of her work with others — especially those who have made significant and positive life changes — has meant to her. She explains her “90/10 philosophy,” and gives us her perspective on diet trends. Joy also demystifies “good fat v. bad fat” – and how much “good fat” one really needs.

We also talk about confidence and what fuels her’s.

There is so much terrific information in this episode, but none more so than Joy’s advice for staying on track with your goals. It’s great advice that works whether you’re trying to lose a few lbs, or are contemplating a much bolder life change.

My conversation with Joy runs a bit longer than most of my episodes, but I think you’ll enjoy it! And, if you are a reluctant (but willing) cook, like me, pull out your slow cooker or crockpot and cook along with us.

Joy’s latest book “Joy Bauer’s Super Food: 150 Recipes for Eternal Youth” — her 15th — comes out in April 2020. You can pre-order here. In the meantime, be sure to check out JoyBauer.com where she posts tips and terrific recipes, as well as other updates. You can also use the link to sign up for her newsletter.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did! Please be sure to let me know what you think!

A couple of my favorite Joy recipes: Kale Pesto with Pasta (I like mine with zucchini noodles!) and Chocolate Banana “Ice Cream” (no sugar, no milk!)
